Darren Grant was born in Long Beach, California on the 12th of June, 1967. He began painting in oils at the young age of 12. After two years of private oil painting classes, Darren would continue to hone his talent on his own throughout his academic years, winning many awards along the way. While attending The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena for architecture, Darren excelled in perspective rendering and design, which drew attention from the architectural firm M.P.R. in Long Beach, CA, recruiting him as a Designer.
In 1993, the company downsized and left Darren with newfound opportunities to dive back into oil painting full time. At the age of 24, he decided to take private lessons again, this time from acclaimed painter and teacher William Martin. William taught in the Classical and Old Masters ways of oil painting, a style that would become Darren's true passion. His love of this detailed precision clearly shows in the beautiful portrayls of realism in all his works, from Sill Life to Landscapes.
Darren has long been inspired by legendary artists Michelangelo and Da Vinici for their masterful fervor of oil painting and architecture. He began to study the works of mid-19th century American landscape artists Frederic Edwin Church, Thomas Cole, and Albert Bierstadt, collectively part of The Hudson River School. They all had the ability to capture the powerful beauty of American Landscapes in their paintings - something Darren aspired to and successfully achieved.
Over the last 30 years, Darren's works have been sold around the country and exhibited in prestigious art galleries in Laguna Beach, Beverly Hills, and Aspen, Colorado. Darren continues to master the art of oil painting in the classical realistic style and endeavors to capture all of America's great nature in oils. Whether it be a sweeping vista, a foggy mountain, or even a stoic building, Darren will find its beauty and put brush to canvas.
